San Antonio Spurs

Last year, San Antonio had another dismal season by its standards. In the Western Conference, the Spurs finished 11th. At this time, they should be embarking on a total rebuild and should do so without hesitation. They’ll most likely be one of the NBA’s worst clubs next season. San Antonio must realize that acquiring considerable playing time for their young players should be a top objective. As a result, I believe Jakob Poeltl, Dejounte Murray, Keldon Johnson, Derrick White, and Doug McDermott will be the starting lineup for next season. The Spurs desperately needed three-point shooting, and they found it in McDermott. It’s considerably more logical for him to begin assisting Murray and Walker in breaking into the lane. Furthermore, the Spurs played small last season, so this shouldn’t be too dissimilar.

Starting Lineup Analysis

The San Antonio Spurs are torn between rebuilding and competing. The Spurs’ last two seasons were their two poorest since 1996-97, when they won 20 games. San Antonio needs to embrace a thorough rebuild, and it appears that it is doing so by parting ways with three of its top scorers, DeMar DeRozan, Patty Mills, and Rudy Gay. San Antonio has added Doug McDermott and Zach Collins, but the team’s younger players, such as Derrick White, Dejounte Murray, Keldon Johnson, and Josh Primo, will be the emphasis. Dejounte Murray and Derrick White, both of whom average 15 points per game, are back for San Antonio.

Due to an ankle injury that held him out for the second part of the 2020-21 season, White only played half of the season, but he appears to be well now. The Spurs have failed to move Thaddeus Young, which is a bit perplexing. Young is a valuable trade asset, especially to clubs competing for a championship. San Antonio must fully commit to the rebuild, even if it means a few more seasons of heartbreak. This Spurs team will not win many games, but they will gain crucial experience for their young core, which may help them break out of their funk.
