New York Knicks

The New York Knicks had a successful first year of the “Tom Thibodeau experiment.” The Knicks made the playoffs in Tom Thibodeau’s first season, and Julius Randle was named the most improved player. New York was also at the top of the NBA in a number of defensive metrics, which is a characteristic of a Thibodeau-coached club. This off-season, the Knicks have been active, adding to an already promising squad. The acquisitions of Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier helped New York’s backcourt woes greatly.

Julius Randle, R.J. Barrett, Mitchell Robinson, Obi Toppin, Kevin Knox, Immanuel Quickley, Nerlens Noel, and Derrick Rose are also expected to return. New York will be one of the most talented teams this season, especially after drafting Quentin Grimes, Miles McBride, Rokas Jokubaitis, and Jericho Sims. Walker, Barrett, Fournier, Randle, and Robinson would be the most logical starting lineup.

New York Knicks Starting Lineup Analysis

The starters for the New York Knicks consist of Alec Burks, Evan Fournier, RJ Barret, Julius Randle, and Mitchelle Robinson.

Once again there is a new starting point guard for an NBA team. This time the Knicks will be utilizing Raymond Felton in the role.

Because New York’s version of the big three take up the majority of the starting five, Felton is stuck carrying the baggage of the worst Knicks starter. As soon as Iman Shumpert returns from his playoff injury, he should be inserted into the starting unit. His promising rookie season paved the way for the belief that he can become an elite perimeter defender in the NBA.

Again there is the issue of a new point guard starting on a new team with Felton. Luckily for New York, Felton previously played for the Knicks and played very well while he was there.

Still, after a down year in Portland, there are a great many doubts floating about concerning Felton’s ability to lead a playoff-caliber offense in New York. He will be filling big shoes with the departure of fan-favorite Jeremy Lin as well.
