There will be no more Kai Jones for the Charlotte Hornets. The team said on Wednesday that they were letting the 22-year-old forward go.
Before media day, the Hornets said that the Texas product would be away from the team indefinitely because of personal problems. This isn’t a surprise. Before that, his crazy behavior on social media included insulting his peers and making fun of himself by comparing himself to Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, and himself.
Jones asked for a move on X, which used to be called Twitter, on Monday to show that he wanted to join a new team, and now he’ll have the chance to do so. He only scored 3.4 points and grabbed 2.7 rebounds per game in his second season as a pro in 2022–2023. However, he showed promise at the NBA’s Summer League before the 2023–24 season. Jones scored 7.8 points, grabbed 4.8 boards, stole 2.2 balls, and blocked 1.8 shots per game.
For now, the Hornets don’t have a lot of big forwards. After putting up career numbers last season, PJ Washington looks like he will start, and Miles Bridges will start the new season by serving a 10-game ban.
