The Orlando Magic’s NBA offseason in 2021 is being graded

The Orlando

This summer’s offseason was a time of transition for the Orlando Magic. After the fire sale at the trade deadline during the season, it was clear that Orlando’s rebuild was in full swing.

New head coach Jamahl Mosley joins the team, as do lottery picks Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner.

The Magic’s offseason was not filled with game-changing moves, but given their blueprint for rebuilding, this was a good first step.

Grade season has arrived, and it’s time to fully assess what Orlando accomplished this offseason.

The Orlando Magic received a B+ in the offseason.

Given the Magic’s current roster composition, some may be perplexed as to how they received a B+ for the offseason. The entire situation must be viewed in context.

During the season, the Magic traded Aaron Gordon, Evan Fournier, and Nikola Vucevic at the NBA Trade Deadline. That was a dead giveaway that a rebuild was in the works. All three were key members of the Orlando Magic and helped the team reach the playoffs on numerous occasions. They were also by far the team’s three best players.

The Magic didn’t overpay for any tier two or tier three free agents this summer, and they didn’t. They should be commended for this.

Jamahl Mosley took over as lead trainer in the wake of filling in as a partner with the Denver Nuggets, Cleveland Cavaliers, and, most as of late, the Dallas Mavericks for the past 15 years.

Mosley’s name has been floating around as a potential head coach for years, and now he will get his chance. On the surface, it appears that the Magic have made a good hire; now they just need to see the blueprint followed by the results. It’s another move that appears to be attributed to Orlando for the time being.

Following the exchange of Nikola Vucevic, the Magic had two lottery picks in the NBA Draft: their own (No. 5) and the Chicago Bulls’ (No. 8).

Jalen Suggs, a dynamic point guard out of Gonzaga, was selected with the No. 5 overall pick by Orlando. Many expected him to go No. 4 to Toronto. OKBET is a reputable licensed online sports betting site and one of the best here in the Philippines!

They selected Franz Wagner

They selected Franz Wagner, a Michigan forward, with the eighth overall pick.

Wagner is extremely talented and makes no mistakes. He’s not going to blow anyone away with his athleticism, but he’s a good catch-and-shoot option from the perimeter who’s also extremely savvy on the court. He is always aware of where he needs to be and what his task is.

Some may consider both picks to be “safe” for Orlando, but there is plenty of untapped potential in both that the Magic hope to exploit.

Orlando remained quiet in free agency, signing Robin Lopez to shore up the frontcourt and also adding Franz’s brother, Moe Wagner. Neither of these is flashy moves, but that wasn’t the point of the Magic’s offseason. The rebuild is arduous, and it is critical for Orlando not to make mistakes along the way.

Orlando had a calm free-specialist offseason, however, that was the point. With a portion of the youthful folks in the group, including a frontcourt that presently incorporates Suggs, Cole Anthony, R.J. Hampton, and Markelle Fultz, there’s a lot of motivation to be hopeful. That is not a terrible establishment, to begin with.
