The Los Angeles Lakers have dismissed center DeAndre Jordan, clearing the way for veteran guard D.J. Augustin to join the team.
However, since the turn of the year, the 33-year-old center has only appeared in five games. As the Purple and Gold have reduced their rotation to just one nominal center, Dwight Howard.
Jordan averaged 4.1 points and 5.4 rebounds in 32 games for the Lakers. It has 67.4 percent from the field. It is expecting to find work soon, as the Philadelphia 76ers are planning an “aggressive pursuit” of the center once he becomes available.
Augustin has played 34 games with the Houston Rockets. He averaged 5.4 points and 2.2 assists per game in the first half of 2021-22, shooting 40.4 percent from the field and 40.6 percent from beyond the arc.
Last season, the 34-year-old guard was a vital rotation member for the Rockets. After being acquired from the Milwaukee Bucks in a trade, Augustin averaged 10.6 points and 3.9 assists per game. He made 38.6 percent of his three-point attempts.
He also played just 20.8 minutes a night throughout 20 games, starting six of them. Augustin will give the Lakers some much-needed depth from beyond the arc, where they shot just 33.5 percent in February. When it fielded big units with Howard on the court, it missed the presence of solid shooters.
In the absence of Anthony Davis, who is nursing a mid-foot sprain and could be out until the end of the regular season, Howard is definite to play consistently during the next month.
After a buyout, DeAndre Jordan signs the Lakers.
The veteran Clippers center signed with the Lakers, filling the team’s final roster space as the 10th player in his 30s. On the 17-time NBA champs’ extremely experienced roster,
DeAndre Jordan is a 13-year NBA veteran who spent his first ten seasons with the Clippers. Before spending the final three with Dallas, New York, and Brooklyn. During his 10years with the Clippers, he led the league in field goal percentage five times and won two rebounding titles, transforming the franchise’s reputation. As serial losers on the renowned Lob City teams with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.
He is well-versed in the sports landscape of Los Angeles. The rim-protecting, lob-finishing big man is well aware that by moving teams in this rivalry. He has won several million new local fans.
DeAndre Jordan, who kept his Malibu home after leaving the Clippers, said, “I think I treat really fairly and pretty well when I was a Clipper for ten years.” “However, this is a large sports town, and many supporters are Laker fanatics.” We knew that even when I was with the Clippers. I’m just very excited to be here, and also I am focused on today. This team, and what our ultimate goals are. It is a fantastic chance for me, and I intend to seize it.”
Jordan has decided to join the Lakers after his time with the Nets came to a halt. He was dealt earlier this month to the Detroit Pistons. He also bought out the remaining two years and $20 million of his contract. Then, last season, he averaged just 7.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in 21.9 minutes per game for Brooklyn, his lowest totals since 2013.
Last season in Brooklyn, Jordan lost playing time and didn’t have his typical defensive impact. It caused the Nets to part ways with the center they signed to a four-year, $40 million deal in July 2019. Jordan is still close friends with Nets stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. He has refused to criticize the organization for giving upon him. It attracts LaMarcus Aldridge out of retirement to take his place.
Jordan said of Irving and Durant, “We’re buddies before and beyond basketball, and I think we just want to be happy.” “Being able to compete is extremely important to me, and they recognized this.” I had a terrific time in Brooklyn during the two years I was there. Being able to immerse myself in the New York lifestyle. I have a lot of memories from my two years there, and I won’t forget them, but I’m looking forward to the next chapter. “
DeAndre Jordan moved quickly to join the Lakers’ roster of accomplished NBA veterans. He feels they can contend for the franchise’s 18th title with a well-traveled core of great players centered around Davis, LeBron James, and Russell Westbrook next season.
If the Lakers do not make another trade, playing time for at least one of their big guys might become an issue. Los Angeles has veteran centers Marc Gasol and Dwight Howard under contract. Anthony Davis fills in at the center regularly.
As a player over the age of 32, Jordan joins Gasol, Howard, James, Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Trevor Ariza, Kent Bazemore, Wayne Ellington, and Rajon Rondo on the Lakers’ current roster. Wesley Matthews could resign by the Los Angeles Lakers.
Although he is only two and a half years younger than Howard. He adores the big man during his NBA career with the Orlando Magic. For a good reason, Jordan is ecstatic to join Westbrook on the court.
